If you are interested in quickly changing or updating the
look of your home, or even certain areas of your home, then
consider decorating with rugs. Rugs are an easy and
affordable way to make drastic changes or subtle ones,
depending on what you are looking for. However, there are
some important tips you should keep in mind when shopping
for rugs to enhance your home.

Color is important to consider when shopping for rugs
because it affects the way the room will appear. So, if you
are decorating a room that is painted a dark color, then you
might consider buying a lighter colored rug to add contrast
and open the room up a bit. Also, if you are buying rugs for
rooms that are painted bright colors or have bright colored
fabrics and furniture, then you will want to buy rugs that
are more neutral toned so as to complement the current color
scheme. However, if you are decorating a room that is
painted a light or neutral color with little or no design,
then buying a brightly colored and designed rug is a good
idea because it will give the room personality and color
immediately.

Pattern is another point to keep in mind when shopping for
rugs. Evaluate the room where you want to place a rug and
note the different design and pattern elements that already
exist. From here you will be able to pick out a rug that
enhances the current patters and does not differentiate from
them. If you have a lot of patterns in your room it will not
look well put together. Make sure the rug complements your
curtains, furniture, and wallpaper patterns.

Another thing to keep in mind when buying rugs is where you
want to use the rug. Ask yourself whether you are buying
rugs for high traffic or low traffic areas, because this can
have a significant impact on the color and designs that will
work best for you. Rugs for high traffic areas are better if
they are dark and patterned because dirt does not show up as
easily. However, rugs for low traffic areas can be any
color, even light colors if nobody uses the area very often.

Finally, keep in mind if you will be buying rugs for your
bathrooms or other areas that will be exposed to water on a
regular basis. If you are buying rugs for these areas then
make sure they are treated for water exposure or else the
rug will not have much durability and will possibly mildew.

Decorating with rugs is a great way to update your home or
simply change the look a bit, but make sure you follow these
tips in order to make the most of the rugs.
